Ex-military police officer pleads guilty to robbing iPhone 'customer'
On June 17 in Fairfax County, prosecutors said, a man drove to a meeting to buy the iPhones. Before the victim could get out of the car, Derr pulled out a .40-caliber pistol and told the man, “You know how this is going to go.” Derr then grabbed a bag containing $2,500 and fled, prosecutors said.
The victim called police and provided enough information for officers to find Derr, who also admitted in court that on June 5 he attempted to rob another prospective iPhone buyer. When he pulled a gun on that man, the victim “replied he did not have any money, entered his car, and left the scene,” according to prosecutors.
Derr, of Alexandria, was an active-duty Air Force staff sergeant assigned to Andrews Air Force Base as a military police officer at the time of the crimes, prosecutors said in a news release. He has since been discharged from the military, prosecutors said.
Ramsey has been charged in federal court with conspiring to commit robbery. He had been previously convicted in another scheme involving iPhones, federal agents wrote in court papers.
