THE promoter of a live music event is encouraging punters to ‘bring their sleeping bag’ to the gig to boost a Burton charity’s fund-raising efforts.
Paul ‘Lavy’ Latham will take part in Burton YMCA’s annual sleep-out on Friday, November 11, immediately after the gig at the Star and Garter, in Grange Street.
Mr Latham, who holds a charity event every year to mark his birthday, is asking the artists taking part and music fans attending to join him in sleeping out at Burton Rugby Club’s Peel Croft ground.
He said: “I always do a charity gig on my birthday and this year I thought I would do something for the homeless, then I was reading the Burton Mail and noticed the sleep-out was on the same night as my birthday gig — it was bizarre.
“Winter’s coming on and you tend to think of people less fortunate than yourself and in the current economic climate it’s not going to go away.
“We’re asking people to bring their sleeping bag down to the gig and then do the sleep-out afterwards.
