Winter fun in the Rockies
Carving through the freshly fallen powder, snow kicks up on to my goggles as I twist and turn down the slope. The magnificent Canadian Rockies tower above me with the late afternoon sunlight turning the rock faces a beautiful bright orange.
It was hard to imagine skiing in a more stunning landscape.
I was at Sunshine Village, one of three ski areas in Banff National Park which combined offers nearly 8,000 acres of skiable terrain.
Despite it being November, most of the slopes were already open offering some great skiing thanks to several feet of early season snow. It is this dry, light snow which the Canadian Rockies are renowned for and it is a complete joy to ski on.
The resort itself offers some superb wide green and blue runs as well as some fantastic powder-covered blacks and off piste areas. And the flour-like snow makes most of these runs easy enough to undertake for the less competent skiers out there.
As my confidence grew throughout the week I was soon hurtling down some of the more tricky blacks with the soft Rocky powder acting as a perfect natural braking system making it great to turn and twist on.
