Eagles Jason Babin and Trent Cole's Sack Totals Are Hollow
The Philadelphia Eagles have had a dreadful 5-8 season. The defense has been the identifiable culprit, allowing big plays all season long. The back seven’s awfulness has become stuff of legends.
Let us focus on the front four, primarily defense ends Jason Babin and Trent Cole. The wide nine technique has had it’s weaknesses, but the two defensive ends are not complaining. The wide nine affords both Babin and Cole more sack opportunities. The reason is because their responsibilities are pretty much narrowed to a single responsibility: sack the quarterback. What defensive end in the NFL would not love that scheme.
Cole has accumulated 33 tackles to go along with his nine sacks this year. He is in his seventh year, having 12.5 sacks in 2009 and 10 sacks last year. Cole is on his usual pace of double digits sacks.
Jason Babin has amassed 34 tackles and a whopping 15 sacks. Babin has been a journeyman playing for five different NFL teams. Last year was by far his best year when he tallied 12.5 sacks for the Tennessee Titans. Babin has already eclipsed that and then some.
