As we neared Antalya the temperatures began to rise and the roads to descend.
The feeling in our toes returned and our morale was buoyed by the warmth and
the thought of a couple of days rest in the city as guests of Caner and
Perwer.
The two laid-back and gracious hosts let us stay in their home and provided
all our meals, including spectacularly tasty breakfasts or "The full
Turkish" as they became known.
They even treated us to a night out at The Rock Bar. It was a night made
memorable by a young couple who attempted to ballroom dance to the raging
heavy metal covers that had the rest of the jubilant crowd dancing in the
more conformist head-banging fashion. We kept our English cool until the
three-piece covers band began the introduction to Metallica’s ‘Enter
Sandman’ which was our queue to show the Turkish youth how we do it in the
UK.
After a dazzling display of pogoing and air guitar, it was clear that the
strength in our legs had returned, even if the will to depart had not. So we
departed for the frozen north and the magnificent rock formations of
Cappadoccia.
