In Bicol alone, about 40,000 metric tons of copra are shipped out of the province annually, based on a report from the Philippine Coconut Authority. Bicol has an estimated 9.8 million fruit-bearing coconut trees, with each tree bearing an average of 25.64 coconuts per year. Copra is transported from the source provinces to Cebu and Mindanao, where it is turned into crude oil, the leading coconut exported product. The other major coconut-based exports include dessicated coconut, charcoal, and coconut virgin oil, which is generating increasing demand in the international market. 3/24/06
