Philippines Among the Top 3 Diving Spots in the World
TOKYO, JAPAN - The Philippines was cited as one of the top three best diving spots in the world, alongside Maldives and Palau, by the 2006 Dive and Travel Awards which took place recently in Tokyo Japan.
"The Philippines was very fortunate to be given the recognition and honor as one of the best dive sites in the world next to Maldives and Palau," said Robert Barbers, General Manager of Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA).
With over 7,000 islands, the Philippines is blessed with spectacular dive spots.
Among the internationally recognized best dive spots in the country are the Tubbataha Reef in Sulu Sea, famous for its diverse marine life; Malapascua in Cebu, which is known for its rare sharks, and Puerto Galera in Mindoro, which is noted for its colorful reefs.
Also well known among divers are Anilao in Batangas, Balicasag Island in Bohol, Apo Island in Negros Oriental, and the surrounding islands of Palawan.
The best dive site awardees were determined through a survey conducted by the Marine Diving Fair (MDF), Asia's largest scuba diving and beach resort exhibition that attracts over 50,000 travelers around the world.
