Manny Pacquiao Defeats Morales
at 10th Round

Las Vegas, Nevada - Philippines boxing icon Manny Pacquiao stopped Mexico's Erik Morales at 2:33 in the 10th round of the super featherweight fight billed as "The Battle" at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Throwing punches at every angle, Pacquiao avenged his defeat 10 months ago and handed Erik Morales the worst beating of his career before finally stopping him in the 10th round Saturday night of their 130-pound showdown.

It was the first time Morales had ever been stopped in what had been a spectacular career, and it came with a spectacular performance by a Filipino who never stopped punching," reports Tim Dahlberg of Associated Press.

"The end came at 2:33 of the 10th round when Morales, who had barely gotten up in time from the first knockdown of the round, was knocked back down with a flurry of punches and referee Kenny Bayless wasted no time in stopping the fight," Dahlberg added.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo congratulated Manny Pacquiao for his victory. "I join Filipinos from every corner of the Philippines and the world over in congratulating Manny Pacquiao on his very convincing victory. Manny’s triumph

exemplifies the indomitable fighting spirit of the Filipino not just in the field of sports but also in every field of struggle for excellence," President Arroyo said in a statement.

"May this serve as an inspiration and constant remainder to all our countrymen that the Filipino can be the best in any endeavor when he puts his heart into it," she added.

Speaker Jose de Venecia on Sunday called Manny Pacquiao as Asia's 'greatest fighter' in his division. "Pacquiao is the pride of the Filipino and the Malay race. There is no doubt that he is Asia's greatest fighter in his division," he said.

Humbled by his victory, Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao thanked God for his triumph over Morales. Pacquiao said there was no doubt God heard his prayers and that of the entire Filipino people.
