Philippine food exports consistently rank among the best in the world. The Philippines is recognized for the freshness and superior taste of its produce, thanks to the country's rich and diverse geography, fertile soil, and tropical climate.

Philippines: Leading Fresh Produce Exporter

The country's major food exports include fresh bananas, rich and luscious mango, sweet and smooth pineapple, and coconut.

The country also exports a whole range of exotic tropical fruits and vegetables such as juicy watermelons, sweet melons, durian, jackfruit, guava, papaya and flavorful calamansi.

The Philippines is the world's 3rd largest exporter of bananas, 5th largest mango exporter, 2nd largest pineapple producer, and the largest coconut oil exporter in the world supplying 64% of the world's coconut oil requirement.

Processed Food - Growing Demand Worldwide

The Philippine food industry is fast establishing a strong foothold in the global processed food and beverage market.

It has over 2,000 processed food and 80 beverage companies producing a myriad of innovative specialty food and beverages - unique mixes and sauces, special delicacies, sumptuous desserts, and a wealth of food ingredients. These products enjoy a growing acceptance and demand worldwide.

The Philippine processed food exports include:

  • processed fruits and vegetables (fruits are processed in brine, sauces or paste, pulped, pickled, dried, quick- frozen or made into purees, juices and concentrates), canned pineapple, bottled jams, jellies and marmalades, nata de coco, nata de pina, kaong, banana chips, dried mangoes
  • meat and meat preparations (pork,chicken and beef are smoked, cured, prepared in brine, dried, canned and processed into varied meat products such as pork / beef loaves, sausages, corned beefs, liver spreads, meat pastes, luncheon meats, hams, bacons etc.)
  • dairy products
  • margarine, shortening, and vegetable fats and oils
  • cereal and flour preparations
  • sugar and sugar preparations, confectionery, honey, and other sugar-based products (chewing gum, soft/hard candies, gelatin and other sugar-based products)
  • coffee, cocoa and tea, carbonated and non-carbonated beverages, fruit juices
  • sauces, condiments, mixed seasoning, spices, flavorings, soup and broth preparations
Total Philippine food and beverage exports in 2004 amounted to US$1.579 billion. Its major markets are the US, Europe and Middle East.
