Puerto Azul Golf Course among the World's Bests
GolfDigest, the world's No.1 Golf Magazine, ranked the Puerto Azul Golf & Country Club in Cavite, Philippines as one of the 100 best golf courses outside the United States in 2005-2006.
The golf course was designed by world famous golfers - Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
Puerto Azul is a par 72 golf course that is one of the most scenic in the Philippines against a backdrop of mountain ranges to the east and an alluring deep blue sea to the west.
"Here, you are surrounded by the ocean, mountains, and tropical forests. The 5th hole, 433 yards, is the biggest challenge with a mango tree in the center of the fairway," said Hugh Campbell, Puerto Azul's general manager.
Campbell assured golf enthusiasts "of the most beautiful settings of the Philippines' unique golfing enclaves, from lush valleys to mountaintops, seaside resorts, or just within the cityscapes."
Its signature hole is number 17, a par 3 hole delineated by one of the deepest water hazards in Philippine golf (the China Sea), is rated by renowned golfers as among the top 500 most difficult in the world.
Puerto Azul Golf and Country Club is a complete leisure resort that caters not just to golf enthusiasts, but guests who are seeking other sports adventures. It has 40 beachfront cottages at Caysubic resort, sports center, 9-hole par 3 golf course and an 18-hole championship golf course.
Caysubic cottages offer a relaxing tropical themed environment, with its informal clusters of thatched bungalows which are connected by boardwalks and decks, and set along the beach amid groves of coconut palms.
The sports center, on the other hand, offers 12 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, squash, basketball and bowling.
The beach club in Palicpic cove is perfect for water skiing, wind surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
The 9-hole bayfront par 3 course and the 18-hole championship course both designed by golf superstar Gary Player, capitalize on the natural terrain both within inland valleys and along the coasts.
