Getting to Boracay

You can get to Boracay Island via air, land and water. The fastest and the most convenient way to get to the island from Manila or Cebu is by air either to Kalibo or Caticlan (the entry point to Boracay).

Getting to Boracay by air

From Manila, there are regular flights to Kalibo (flight time: 45 minutes) and to Caticlan (flight time: 30 minutes).

Philippine Airlines flies four times daily from Manila to Kalibo, while cebu Pacific and Air Philippines each has one to two flights daily to Kalibo.

If you decide to take a Manila - Caticlan route, you can choose between Asian Spirit or Sea Air. Asian Spirit has four to five flights daily, while Sea Air has three flights daily to Caticlan. If you're coming from Cebu, Asian Spirit and Sea Air fly to Kalibo twice a week.

From Kalibo Airport, you can hire air-conditioned vans and buses to take you to the Caticlan Jetty (travel time: 90 minutes). There are boats stationed in the Caticlan Jetty that could take you to the island. The boat ride is about 15 - 30 minutes. You will have to wade through the water to get to the boat and back to the shore, so be sure to wear appropriate clothes!

Getting to Boracay by sea

From Manila, you can take MBRS Shipping Lines to Caticlan. The ship leaves Manila's North Harbor, Pier 8, three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) at 5 PM. The ship arrives in Caticlan the next day between 6 and 8 AM. Other shipping companies service the route Manila to Dumaguit, half an hour east from Kalibo. The companies are WG&A and Negros Navigation.

Getting to Boracay by land

If you're feeling a little bit more adventurous, you can take a private car or an ride an airconditioned bus from any where in Luzon to Caticlan. You will have to take the "Strong Republic Nautical Highway" that stretches from Batangas (Luzon) all the way to Cagayan de Oro (Mindanao). A RoRo (Roll On - Roll Off) vessel leaves daily (8:30 a.m.) from Batangas to Calapan, Mindoro. From alapan, you can drive your car or take a mini-van or air-conditioned bus to Roxas, Mindoro.

From Roxas, you will have to take another RoRo vessel, which leaves at 2 p.m. and arrives in Caticlan at 6 p.m. The same vessel leaves Caticlan at 9 a.m. daily.

Since cars are not allowed in Boracay, you will have to park your car at one of the secured parking lots in Caticlan.

Getting around Boracay

Walking is highly recommended, and is probably the best way to enjoy the island and see nature upclose. You can also

take tricycles (which are motorcyles with sidecars for passengers) or arrange for boat or banca trips and carabao-driven cart rides.

You may also rent bicycles and motorcycles. If you decide to do so, make sure to ask the resort management where you're staying for tips and directions since Boracay road conditions and driving manners may be different from your country's. And don't forget to bring along your International driver's license.
